Some lucky guy in Tuscaloosa got this two-tiered safari-themed cake for his birthday.
His OTHER gift was a real safari trip to Africa (of the photo, not hunting variety). We took a few liberties
with the palm trees but we didn't think he would really mind...
What else did we do this weekend?
Well, Saturday was graduation day for the University of Alabama. The University awarded some 1,200 degrees during summer commencement on campus. We did several Alabama-themed cakes, including this one with a half football field. It may seem an odd choice but his options were very small full field, or this larger half field.
Then there was the groom from Nebraska. When you get married in a college town like Tuscaloosa, you're sure to be remembered with this cake. "Go Big Red" was piped on the sides, just in case anyone had questions regarding the groom's football team preferences. The groom didn't want chocolate cake but the cake is filled with mocha buttercream and the bottom tier is covered in dark chocolate ganache.
The bride's cake? It was a beautiful four-tier cake, iced the palest pink, with floral piping and fresh flowers. Inside was a vanilla sponge with raspberry filling.
We had one more wedding, a very non-traditional collection of cheesecakes (vanilla, amaretto and raspberry) with sides of sauces -- raspberry coulis, strawberry coulis, and chocolate ganache).
And then the sweet sixteen cake consisting of two cakes carved to resemble pillows, covered in fondant, waiting for a tiara to be placed on top for the birthday princess.
This week starts with an order for over 2500 cookies to be delivered to the various sororities holding "rush" this week. Then three weddings and various birthdays and other celebrations requiring cookies or cake.

Really nice and fun looking cake that safari one. Like how each tier is a different pattern associated with wildlife!
