Besides the Cookie Throwdown on Saturday afternoon, we had an order for 440 decorated shortbread cookies, in cellophane bags, for the Honors College at UA, three weddings, lunch for 50 at Kentuck, plus many birthday and shower cakes.
This Noah's Ark cake was the first to leave the shop for a baby shower early Saturday morning. Ben made all the little animals from fondant and marzipan and I have to say that he's getting pretty good at this.
The cake was really cute, and looked great on the iron elephant stand (sorry that you cannot see it in this photo) that Steve Davis made for us last year. The original intent of the stand was an Alabama (Big Al) theme, but it works with Noah's Ark too.
Then we had a "My Little Pony" cake. This tropical-looking cake will get a pony topper when it arrives home with the birthday girl.
Technially we don't do character cakes, but we are happy to create a backdrop for whatever characters you might want to add on your own. We'll even help you place them on the cake if you like.
Our other "Steve Davis original" stand also went out this weekend as the base for a duck hunting themed groom's cake.
Fondant "reeds" and chocolate dipped marshmallow "cattails" and chocolate covered strawberries are juxtaposed with chocolate buttercream and ganache to create a bird pond setting.
Tomorrow morning we'll be decorating a topsy-turvy cake on Fox6 TV in Birmingham. Then a much-needed rest until Tuesday when it starts all over again.
