My favorite line from the movie Sweet Home Alabama is when Jake decides not to just sign the divorce papers Melanie has handed him and says "Honey, just cuz I talk slow doesn't mean I'm stupid."
So this morning the phone rings...
"May I speak with the owner or manager?"
The one line that screams "I want to sell you something but I know nothing about your business."
This time it was a company (I am pretty sure she said "Summit') that was going to be in my neighborhood tomorrow and wanted to come in to verify there were no overages on our credit and debit fees.
"Can I verify your address?"
She was talking pretty fast, but when I cut in to tell her we were not interested, she got defiant. "I'm not trying to sell you anything, I am just trying to verify your address."
Yeah, right.
So I said what I always say when I get calls like this.
"I am not interested and please take me off your call list, I am sorry you wasted your time."
And then, without waiting for a reaction or response, I just hung up.
