We've done golf cakes before, but NEVER like this.
The only non-edible parts on this cake are the golf clubs (and the custom stand).
It's for a groom who's a professional golfer.
The cake itself is carved from a full sheet cake, plus a bit and covered in fondant.
More fondant for the trim and towel.
The initials were cut with the new Cricut, but it was a royal pain in the butt peeling them off the sheet and getting them onto the cake.
Then we had to cut about ten inches off the clubs so they would be in perspective -- so I guess I won't be using my 5-wood, 3-iron, 4-iron and old putter to actually hit a ball ever again.
No worries, I never hit the ball much with them anyway.
We had two golf cakes today -- for two separate weddings.
The second resembles the logo for the Masters Golf Tournament. The actual logo is yellow with a red flag, but we were asked to make this one green and yellow.
It's huge, cut from a full sheet of strawberry cake, and carved to be geographically correct.
Well... maybe Augusta is a little lower on the map but you get the idea. The flag is cut from gum paste.

maybe Augusta is a little reduced on the map but you get the concept. The banner is cut from gum insert.
