It happens every year. A chronic shortage of babies. I tried getting them online but supplies are low. Especially the little ones.
Then I tried the local party store. Saw about ten very small pink babies in a basket and asked if they had more. A surly voice answered from somewhere in the back "just what's there."
I called Walmart -- both Walmarts. Just getting someone to answer the phone made me feel confident. But no, they were out.
So when my staff arrived for work, I handed my car keys to Leigh and sent her on a mission: Find us some babies! At least fifty. Handed her a twenty and said if she had any money left, we also needed all purpose flour.
And yes, there are babies for sale in Tuscaloosa, but only if you know where to look.
She went to at least three places, but I'm not giving away our source.
After all, it's only ten days before Mardi Gras and we've got lots of King Cakes to make.
And babies are expensive.
