Another weekend for beautiful and elegant cakes.
This one was the centerpiece for an afternoon bridal shower. A pretty stacked white cake, covered in fondant, quilted, and studded with pearls. Matt Clinton of Matt Clinton Designs did the florals.
The entire table was stunning, all white-on-white. The sweets included russian tea cakes, petit fours, monogrammed shortbread medallions and white rose cupcakes. Plus flowers and white china and linens...
Then a baby shower cake, also covered in fondant, with the Herend fishnet design piped on two of the tiers.
Three of the collectible figurines garnished the cake, along with a large (and detailed) monogram piped onto gum paste.
We started with a painted version of the design, but didn't like the way it looked, so we peeled off the fondant at the last minute and switched to piped royal icing.
The color had to match the figurines exactly, and it was made up of pink, red and purple. Luckily we didn't run out because I had long since lost count of the proportions.
The fondant was also a custom color, a combination of white Americana and white chocolate (Massa Grischuna from Albert Uster Imports).
And then the tuxedo cake with the houndstooth hat.
For a 31st birthday to the "Boss" (NOT Bruce Springsteen...).
The bottom tier is covered in black ganache, with gray pinstripe piping.
The top tier is covered in white buttercream and enrobed with a black fondant "tuxedo" with matching buttons and tie.
The houndstooth hat was purchased and placed on the stand.
Pretty cool, huh? I think this would make an outstanding groom's cake as well as a birthday cake.

Yes, that's a real hat on the topsy turvy cake!
