First there was the Get Back To Scratch contest, 93 days of non-stop voting for our signature scratch item, Alabama-themed shortbread cookies. Then the wait to hear if we won. Then the wait for the mixer to arrive. Then preparations for the video interviews, the official blessing, and the party.
Now that it's over, we're incredibly tired but it was totally worth it.
And we did her proud.
Her full name is Rosie Towanda "Precious" Hobart.
For her party, we made her a size 3X Hobart logo cake surrounded by a few hundred mini rose cupcakes. What could be more perfect for a ginormous 60-quart mixer?
She has her very own closet pegboard to store her stuff... two whisks, two beaters and two dough hooks -- made by our new neighbors in downtown Northport, Art Off Main Creative Studios.
Amy and Miranda at Art Off Main also presented us with a portrait that guests could sign to welcome Rosie to the Bakery.
She even has her own verse to the Mary's Cakes blues song written by Rick Asherson and Debbie Bond. You can listen to and download the original version here. The new verse goes like this...
Folks at Hobart, to make splash
Had a competition, "get back to scratch"
The prize a mixer worth 30 grand!
Mixes real good - Hobart's the brand
Thousands voted online, Mary took first place
Now Rosie T the mixer lives in Mary's baking space!
And now it's time to get back to "normal" at the bakery. Or rather to discover what the new normal will be with Rosie around.
Can hardly wait!
