I just finished an interview with Tuscaloosa Magazine about wedding cake design trends.
Then I ran across this photo from one of our weddings over the weekend and realized it was the PERFECT example of almost every trend we just discussed.
This year's top five wedding cake trends...
- Simple design. No piped swirls or dots or lace covering the cake. Just a smoothly-iced cake. Go back and look at the cake from Bella and Edward's wedding in the movie Breaking Dawn. Absolutely plain, but with lots of elegant flowers.
- Fondant details. The buttons and bow are made from fondant. Surrounded by lace, you might just miss these, but they really pop on the simple background.
- Bling. A beautiful gem-covered brooch in the middle of the fondant bow adds another touch of elegance.
The fresh flowers in deep jewel tones were beautifully arranged by Gary at Jesters Flowers -- some on top of the cake around the monogram topper, and more at the base of the cake stand.
Look real close and you'll see peacock feathers peeping out from the greenery.
Want to know what other trends we're seeing? You'll just have to wait for Tuscaloosa Magazine's bridal issue, coming out soon.

Love the cake!
