Yep. Gelato can have a provenance. Doesn't it look delicious?
These are the strawberries. THE strawberries.
All we added to get to gelato was some sugar, some milk, and a little gelato stabilizer (to keep it from getting icy). Technically we're a bakery; the gelato freezer was added a few years ago because one cannot live on cake alone...
The strawberries are from Snow's Bend Farm, in Coker, Alabama, not ten miles from the bakery as the crow flies. Maybe even closer. Of course I can't hop on a crow, so it seems a bit further as my car goes around the bends in the dusty road behind the airport.
Snow's Bend is run by David and Margaret Ann and it is a lovely place.
Besides the strawberries, we also got some lettuce and spring onions last week.
The lettuce made its way to our sandwiches and chicken salad plates. The spring onions were sauteed and will make up the filling in this week's stuffed bread. We'll add some pesto and goat cheese and herbs.
So come on down and get some. If the idyllic weather holds out, you can enjoy it all outside in our garden patio.
